Star of the Day Event Productions presents Footloose the Musical. The 80s Top 40 film never sounded so good, boasting the original songs audiences have loved for decades, and more. A throwback to teen romance, angst and, of course, the need to dance, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. Show More...What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Footloose boasts an Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) with dynamic new songs. ...Show Less

The Great Rock 'N Roll Time Machine is an all-out overload of sight and sound that brings the audience back to the glory days of 70s and 80s arena rock. Show More...This full-production show is a journey in two acts - the first act brings you straight into an 8-Track flashback, revisiting hits by artists such as Peter Frampton, Boston, Paul McCartney & Wings, KISS, Alice Cooper, The Sweet, Cheap Trick, Elton John, and many others, and then rockets you into the decade of decadence, the 1980s, with hits from artists such as Van Halen, Motely Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison, Journey, and many more.
In 2007, lifelong arena rock fan and veteran Jersey Shore MUSICIAN Davey Lister found himself in the hot-seat as the new guitarist for legendary hair metal band Pretty Boy Floyd. Pretty Boy Floyd was among last bands who rode the vestige of the L.A. glory days of 80s rock and roll. They enjoyed moderate success on MTV with hits such as "Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set the Night on Fire)", and "I Wanna Be With You." Pretty Boy Floyd's debut album Leather Boys With Electric Toys had, at the time, also recently voted by the editors of Rolling Stone to be #50 in the "Top 100 Hair Metal Albums of All Time."
After Davey's tenure in Pretty Boy Floyd, he returned to his native New Jersey with a dream to start a project paying tribute to the gods of stadium rock, which he envisioned as being "Beatlemania meets Steel Panther." Davey enlisted Jersey Shore session bassist Kriss Kaboom to help him begin his rock and roll odyssey. Together, they forged what would become known as "Hair Metal Time Machine."
For the next six years, Hair Metal Time Machine thrilled and delighted audiences up and down the tristate area of the Northeast. Not just being satisfied with the limitations of only performing hits from the eighties, Davey and his band decided to dig deeper and include the real forefathers of classic rock, and incorporated the glam gods of the 1970s into the show. Thus, The Great Rock 'n Roll Time Machine was born.

At the dawn of the 20th century, everything is changing...and anything is possible. CONCERT ADAPTATION OF "SHOW BOAT" IS MARQUEE EVENT OF BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE'S ANNUAL OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN FESTIVAL

Bucks County Playhouse audiences will have the opportunity to revisit one of America's most storied musicals when it presents a world-premiere concert Show More...adaptation of Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern's legendary musical, "Show Boat," Saturday, June 23 at 7 p.m.
Executive Producer Robyn Goodman, Producing Director Alexander Fraser and Producers Stephen Kocis and Josh Fiedler recently announced details of the benefit concert, which is part of the Playhouse's fourth Oscar Hammerstein Festival. The event, which features an all-new adaptation by Rob Ruggiero, includes a cast of top Broadway talent performing Hammerstein and Kern's score with narration by Ted Chapin, President and Chief Creative Officer of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, and direction by Josh Rhodes (BCP's Ebenezer Scrooge's Big Playhouse Christmas Show and Encore's "Grand Hotel"). Andy Einhorn (Broadway's "Carousel" and "Hello, Dolly!") is musical director.
Considered by many historians to be the first modern musical, "Show Boat" was groundbreaking when it first premiered in 1927. The timelessly romantic musical tale follows the lives of three generations born on the Cotton Blossom as it sails the Mississippi River from the 1880s to the 1920s.
"I first fell in love with Show Boat when I saw the remarkable 1936 film with Irene Dunne, Paul Robeson and Helen Morgan. We are thrilled to present our first Hammerstein musical at the Playhouse, and continue our study of how Hammerstein's legacy can inform future generations of musical writers," said Producing Director Alexander Fraser.
"Ever since we first arrived in Bucks County - the home of Oscar Hammerstein II during perhaps his most prolific writing period - we have dreamed of presenting "Show Boat,"" says Executive Producer Robyn Goodman. "We are very excited and proud to present Rob Ruggiero's concert adaptation with this extraordinary Broadway cast."
Two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (Broadway's "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella") leads the cast as Magnolia alongside James Snyder (Broadway's "Cry-Baby," Encore's "Grand Hotel") as Gaylord Ravenal. Emmy-award winner, Jessica Walter (BCP's "Steel Magnolias" and TV's "Arrested Development") returns to the Playhouse as Parthy. The cast also includes Clyde Alves (Broadway's "On the Town" and BCP's "The New World") as Frank, Natasha Yvette Williams (Broadway's "Waitress") as Queenie and Stephanie Gibson (Broadway's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and BCP's "The Rocky Horror Show") as Ellie. Tony winner Michael McGrath ("Nice Work If You Can Get It") will play Captain Andy. Michel Bell will also reprise his Tony-nominated role of Joe, the soulful singer of "Ol' Man River," from the 1994 Broadway Revival. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
The "Show Boat" benefit concert will be the culmination of Bucks County Playhouse's Fourth Oscar Hammerstein Festival. Named in honor of the master writer Oscar Hammerstein II whose countless accomplishments during his illustrious career have included mentoring a young Stephen Sondheim at Hammerstein's Highland Farm in Bucks County - the Festival is a year-long program that offers expert mentorship to early career composers and lyricists.
This year, Bucks County Playhouse is partnering with Roundabout Theatre Company's Space Jam Program by offering two teams of composers and lyricists an artistic retreat in Bucks County. Space Jam is a playwright-support initiative designed to give writers the time and space to work through various types of solo and group writing retreats.
"Bucks County Playhouse is thrilled to partner with Roundabout Theatre Company and its Space Jam program to offer this artistic retreat during our Oscar Hammerstein Festival," says Producer Josh Fiedler. "We look forward to welcoming these songwriters as guests of honor at the benefit concert and to hearing their own work performed as part the weekend's activities."
Tickets to the benefit concert of "Show Boat" are on sale now and range from $75 - $100. Sponsorships, which include the concert as well as additional events during the weekend, are also available. For complete details, and to purchase tickets, please visit buckscountyplayhouse.org, call 215-862-2121, or visit the box office at 70 South Main Street, New Hope, PA. "It is truly my time now, at 50." - Paula Cole.
More beautiful than ever, in a twenty-plus-year-career, Paula Cole releases Ballads, a twenty-song Show More...collection of American jazz and folk classics from the 1930's to the 1960's. It is dedicated to her father, Jim Cole.
Cole started as a jazz singer and now returns, at nearly 50 years of age, to pay homage to her first love of jazz and folk. A self-described "mother and human being first" Cole is a timeless voice not only in song, but for those who have felt pain, and who still stand shining light, against all odds. With a voice that is big, rich and gorgeous, a mind that is intelligent, and a heart that transforms suffering into beauty, Paula Cole sings for our enlightenment, for our souls.
Ballads is a journey to Billie Holiday and Bob Dylan, to John Coltrane and Nina Simone, to Bobbie Gentry and Nancy Wilson, sung by a stunning Paula Cole we've not yet heard.
Start pouring the fine wine. Some things get better with age.
Paula Cole is the voice behind Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live, hits "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?", "I Don't Want To Wait", and the brave, brazen double platinum album, This Fire. Cole has infused wit and poetry in seven albums of original work over a twenty-plus-year-career. In performance, Cole gives of herself to such a degree that she elicits tears and gasps and goose bumps from audiences. In her lyrics, she writes of inner life, of redemption, a woman's perspective; of social justice.
As the first woman in history to solely produce and receive the Best Producer Grammy nomination for her work, This Fire, Cole broke boundaries with a searcher's spirit. Recently Paula is celebrating the 20th anniversary of This Fire, and will be performing This Fire in its entirety at select concerts. She has released a new video of "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?", and a 20th anniversary-memento-live album entitled This Bright Red Feeling.
From a small town Rockport, Massachusetts, Paula was raised in a musical family, learning standards that would eventually become Ballads. She attended Berklee College of Music as a jazz singer, graduated in 1990, fervently writing and recording her original work. In 1993, Peter Gabriel heard her then-unreleased debut album Harbinger and invited Cole to join his Secret World Live tour. While touring internationally with Gabriel, Cole's Harbinger debuted in 1994 to critical acclaim. She toured non-stop and released her second album, 1997's This Fire for which she won the Grammy for Best New Artist along with seven nominations. Cole led the pack at Lilith Fair's opening years, and in 1999, followed her muse to release Amen, a genre-crossing, social-spiritual album to diverse audiences.
After a seven-year hiatus to raise her daughter Sky, who battled childhood asthma, Cole returned to her "second, more authentic career" releasing five more albums, Courage (2007), Ithaca (2010), Raven (2013), 7 (2015), and This Bright Red Feeling (2016), touring consistently over the last decade.
Cole walks her path with her fans, writing out her life, sharing her connection at concerts and over social media. Cole's compositions have been covered by a diverse range of artists (jazz legend Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox, Katherine McPhee, JoJo, hip-hop duo THEY), she has sold approximately three million albums, performed with icons such as Peter Gabriel, Dolly Parton, Herbie Hancock, Emmylou Harris, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Burt Bacharach, Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, and currently has over four hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify. With a loyal fan base who appreciate the depth of her catalog, the loving artist-fan relationship, and the wisdom earned through pain, tears and joy, Cole is proud to go independently on her own label, 675 Records.
Cole is now Professor at her alma mater Berklee College of Music, between tours and albums.
She continues to write, produce, record and perform heartfelt, meaningful, lasting music that defies categorization.

"A Fantastic Artist" - Herbie Hancock

The breathtaking range of Russia's most beloved cultural export, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, is on display to open our 2018 summer season with The Philadelphia Show More...Orchestra. Elegant and fiery, soulful and triumphant, Tchaikovsky's music captures the longing of the human spirit and celebrates the vitality only music can extol. His most popular opera, Eugene Onegin, centers this program, a story of love and loss first immortalized by Pushkin in his novel of the same name. Soprano Elena Perroni returns from her triumph in the Mann's The Heavens are Telling performance last summer to beguile with the Letter Scene from the opera. In it, the teenage Tatiana rhapsodizes about her first love. The Waltz that anchors one of the two glittering party scenes in the opera opens our program.
Cellist Zachary Mowitz, one of the latest winners of The Philadelphia Orchestra's Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition, will dazzle in his performance of the elegant Variations on a Rococo Theme, one of many homages to past times Tchaikovsky wrote in several forms throughout his career. That career also contained three now immortal ballets from which we excerpt the greatest music of The Sleeping Beauty including the majestic Waltz. And what all-Tchaikovsky program would be complete without the 1812 Overture, culminating with fireworks!

Celebrate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein in our signature festival concert featuring his most treasured works. The program includes excerpts Show More...from On the Town, Peter Pan, Candide, and Gershwin's jazz-infused Rhapsody in Blue, a seminal composer in his own right who was a significant influence for Bernstein.
The Mann Center will present the world premiere of a newly commissioned work South Side, Symphonic Dances by acclaimed American composer Darin Atwater. An artistic force in the broadest and most creative sense of the word, Atwater's career has encompassed the roles of composer, conductor, pianist, record producer, film composer, entrepreneur, educator, and arts advocate. As Founder and Artistic Director of Soulful Symphony, Atwater has blended American music into many dazzling fusions, traversing genres and literally reinventing the symphony orchestra in America.
South Side, Symphonic Dances is based on the eternal tale in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Bernstein's romantic musical update West Side Story. South Side, Symphonic Dances represents the tragedy and triumph of African-American youth who navigate the complexity of urban living. The war between rival teenage gangs in Bernstein's West Side Story is replaced with the metaphoric rival "gang" of oppressive forces and structures of subordination, including racism, economic/educational disparities, injustice, media bias, etc. South Side, Symphonic Dances attempts to storyboard our collective struggles and the power of story, music, and culture, transcending boundaries of geography, class, and race - all of the universal concepts that are present in all cultures.
These objectives are stylized and coded within the music. From spirituals to hip-hop/rap, there is a connection between coded musical communication and resistance. African-American music is a form of political, economic, and ideological empowerment. South Side, Symphonic Dances will advance this tradition by transmitting sonic perspectives on important social issues - a model of freedom through sounds, words and movements in the body coded by the black community, all speaking to the "figurative nature in black culture" (Henry Louis Gates). "With Bernstein as a springboard, South Side, Symphonic Dances is an attempt to extend his themes of 20th-century integration and multiculturalism," Atwater says. "I hope to create an exciting score wrapped around contemporary social and racial tensions. When you commit to such heroic ambitions, you create inspirational works, transform communities and ultimately bring people together."
Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com, (800) 745-3000, or the Mann Box Office.

Join us for this must-see performance by classical/flamenco style guitarist Gladius! No registration. Program sponsored by the Friends of the Warminster Show More...Library!
More than a fabulous performer and award-winning composer, listeners have called Gladius a miracle in the making -the guitarist has prevailed over a crippling case of nerve damage which greatly hindered the dexterity of both hands, and could have easily ended a musician's career.
Inspired by the great composers, Spanish guitar maestros, and much more, this musical mad scientist fuses the elements into a refreshing formula-evoking the Spanish spirit, yet distinctly unorthodox.
11 years, 4 surgeries, 9000 hours of physical therapy, and countless prayers later...
Gladius perseveres: relentlessly touring, recording, inspiring audiences of all ages, and winning numerous composition awards such as: Driven Creativity Competition (2013) and Music Composition Contest (2013), among others.

The Mann is thrilled to present Star Wars: A New Hope live in concert on July 20th. The Philadelphia Orchestra will play John Williams' iconic musical Show More...score live as the film is projected on three giant screens.
John Williams did not compose his Star Wars scores for the concert hall... but he did compose them with a concert hall mentality. George Lucas wrote his original 1977 script while listening to and taking inspiration from great works of the classical repertoire, and when he hired Williams to score the film, that kind of music - symphonic, grand, aged - felt like it had always belonged inside his new universe.
Since the release of A New Hope over 40 years ago, the Star Wars saga has had a seismic impact on both cinema and culture, inspiring audiences around the world with its mythic storytelling, captivating characters, groundbreaking special effects and iconic musical scores composed by Williams. The top Academy Award®-winning Star Wars film, A New Hope was nominated for ten Oscars including Best Original Score. The film was also chosen by the American Film Institute as the greatest score ever written. For the first time, fans will be able to experience the scope and grandeur of this beloved film in a live symphonic concert experience.
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com, (800) 745-3000, or the Mann Box Office.. ...Show Less
